Houston Zoo A view of the reflecting pool at the zoo this morning: We braved the spring break crowds and visited the Houston Zoo today. Since I am such a stickler for punctuality, we left home early and got to the zoo just before the gates opened for the day. We got a great parking spot near the front and escaped most of the crowds. By the time we had walked the entire zoo which included all the exhibits, petted the goats in the kids area, admired the herd of giraffes, and listened to the lion roar, the crowds were getting fierce and we were ready to leave. We had lunch at Black Walnut Cafe in the Rice Village. We had intended to go to Ruggles Grill but there were no available tables and I was starving. We ate the fish tacos at Black Walnut which were fairly good but not the best I've had. Black Walnut does have some very fine gelato, apparently homemade. Houston Zoo Black Walnut Cafe
